Bacon Party Contest, We have a Winner

Cad's fourth birthday is at the end of April.  Yesterday I asked him what kind of birthday party he'd like to have.
"I have been waiting for you to ask because I want to have a bacon birthday party."
"What kids of things do you have at a bacon birthday party?"
"You have to make an American flag out of bacon, and we need chocolate chip bacon cookies, and bacon candy (dates wrapped in bacon), and cake like a pile of pancakes and ice cream with bacon on top.  There needs to be bacon plates and napkins.  Can you make me a bacon birthday crown?"

All I could think was woah, he's had this all in his head and it's pretty brilliant.  Also, is this kid paleo or what?!?  How can we pull this off?
The American flag idea is definitely the coolest, and could probably be done with some blueberries and a sheet pan.  I am thinking I might take this bacon party idea and run with it, but maybe give it a bit of a twist and make it a lumberjack party.  We can have trees, flannel, bacon, and flapjacks.  I can use images from Cad's Paul Bunyan book on the invites.

Between Pinterest and Epic Meal Time  I can find lots of creative things to do with bacon.  We have a great store in Salem, the Beehive,  that has lots of bacon themed stuff.  I have seen bacon board games, bandaids, and even gum.
That's where you come in, dear reader.  I'm having a little contest for the most creative idea for this bacon party.  It has to be something that would work for a 4 year old's birthday, is bacon or lumberjack themed, and super funny or creative!  Put your ideas in the comments (with weblinks, if needed) and the winner will receive a special bacon related prize!!  The contest starts February 28th and runs until March 8th.  Just make sure you leave me your contact info!  The winning idea will be photographed for an upcoming post about the party and you will receive the adoration of your fellow bacon lovers.

This party will not be for vegetarians, that's for sure!

EDIT:  Thanks for the MANY texts, emails, and comments on this post and on facebook.  So many great ideas!  The winner is Liv and her brilliant idea for a lumberjack obstacle course.  Stay tuned for a future post with pictures from the Bacon Birthday!

  1. Bacon, Bacon, Bacon! We SO want to be at this party. I have major little bacon eaters. We had Chocolate Sunday at church recently, where everyone brings in chocolate items for a bake sale. We made dark chocolate-covered bacon pops. We threaded bacon on skewers, baked them on sheets until crispy, put them on wax paper, painted on dark chocolate (that we melted in a double boiler). Then, we made four different batches, in terms of garnish: sel gris (gray sea salt), pistachio, walnut, and marshmallow drizzle. The sea salt was the best, followed by the pistachio. We wrapped them in plastic wrap and tied with a ribbon. The sea salt ones were the first thing to sell out of all the items at the sale. (This is Liv.)

  2. I may comment a few times as ideas come to me. Last summer we took the kids to a lumber jack show, and they really enjoyed it. The lumber jacks did all kinds of things, like log walking and chain saw races. Obviously, you couldn't do that with little kids, but you could make a lumberjack obstacle course in the yard with a little balance beam or walking from stump to stump or lumber piece to lumber piece. Instead of axe-throwing, you could do a bean bag toss.

You could also make a log pinata, and instead of having the kids hit it with a regular bat, you could fashion an axe-shaped bat.

These are also really cute (http://media-cache-ec5.pinterest.com/550x/4a/7c/60/4a7c6018d61f555ac33ed99e01140cc3.jpg) bacon decorations.

And, if you were looking for a cool favor, TJ Maxx generally has twig/branch wooden pensils, which are really cool.

  3. I love bacon. You definitely need to do a pin the bacon on the pig game. Or consider having a bacon bar. Kind of like a sundae bar but bacon themed. I can picture homemade bacon ice cream and toppings like crumbled bacon, maple bacon bits, chocolate bacon bits, candied bacon etc. I mean what goes better with bacon then more bacon. I absolutely love that Cad said he wanted a bacon party, he is a kid after my own heart!
